To seed a new lawn, prep the area by raking to loosen the top layer of soil and remove any dead grass or debris to ensure seed-to-soil contact. To reseed or overseed an existing lawn, mow the lawn at the lowest setting and bag the clippings. For new lawns and overseeding, apply grass seed using a Scotts spreader at the recommended setting listed on the label. After application, lightly rake the seed into the soil to ensure seed is covered just beneath the soil surface.
